CREATIVE COLLABORATIONS
M E D U S A
M E D U S A was presented by Ash Morris on the 23rd, 25th and 27th of August, 2019 as part of Mudfest. It was on at 8pm and ran for 45 minutes.
The production took place at the Union Theatre of Union House, which is located on the land of the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation. This is land is stolen land. Sovereignty was never ceded.
M E D U S A was devised by the ensemble: Adelaide Greig, Ashyr Mason-Kaine, Billie Tumarkin, Vaishnavi Ravikrishna & Zoë Steiner, along with Director, Ash Morris, and Movement Director, Lucy Seale. The rest of the production team consisted of Nicola Dobinson as Costume Designer, Yufan Jo Chen as Photographer, Anya Wong as Sound Designer, and Oliver Ross as Lighting and Set Designer.
M E D U S A gives voice to the monster behind the myth.
Cursed with a head of snakes and the ability to transform men into stone, Medusa has isolated herself from humanity. On top of that, soldiers keep trying to kill her (which is super annoying) and now her yard is scattered with statues.
Through a combination of physical performance and live soundscapes, an ensemble of five women paint a powerful picture of timeless injustice. This collaborative work explores Medusa’s regeneration from victim to empowered monster... She’s having a great hair day and she’s ready to spit venom.
Do you dare to meet her gaze?
